Friends of AFS in Australia works with AFS in other countries to share in the delivery of intercultural learning opportunities for Australian students.

Scholarships range from full and partial scholarships for short intensive cultural immersion to award winning virtual exchange programs for young changemakers.

50 Scholarships for Young Changemakers in Australia & New Zealand
Virtual exchange: 2 May - 26 July 2025.
Addressing global sustainability challenges requires engaging diverse young people in every corner of the world. To this end, AFS is proud to unveil full scholarships for the AFS Global STEM Changemakers: Australia-New Zealand, a unique full-scholarship, intercultural exchange program for teens (age 15-17.5) to foster transformative learning experiences through STEM, global competence, and positive social impact.
Students with a keen interest in STEM and sustainability, from diverse backgrounds throughout New Zealand and Australia, are strongly encouraged to apply. A minimum of 20% of scholarship spots are earmarked for students from Aboriginal, Maori, Torres Strait Islander, native and Indigenous communities, as well as refugees and displaced students.

Akito Sumibo Scholarship
Four week Intensive Program to Japan
Depart early October, return early November
Applications are open for this fully funded scholarship by Anglo American & Mitsui Resources Pty Ltd and is offered exclusively for a student living Queensland.
The successful student will spend 4 weeks in Japan learning Japanese language and culture, attending a Japanese school while living with a Japanese family.

MEXT Japanese Scholarships
Immerse in Japanese high school life for a short period to gain understanding of Japan and Japanese culture.
Four week Intensive Program to Japan
The MEXT Scholarship has been developed by the Japanese Government to strengthen ties with other nations through educational and cultural exchanges.

There are two scholarships available for Queensland students currently in Year 9-11 and aged between 15 and 18 now.
